What is Gingivitis?
Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums. Some common features associated with gingivitis are red and swollen gums, and the presence of bleeding while brushing and/or flossing. The cause of gingivitis is the bacteria in dental plaque. This disease is reversible with good oral hygiene practices, but it is not curable. A car analogy may make sense: you can not fill your car with gas ONCE and expect it to run FOREVER! In the same way, you need to brush at least twice a day, floss once a day, and visit your dental hygienist two, three or even four times a year to keep the gingivitis away. This is the heart of a prevention-oriented dental treatment plan! |
